Formed in 1925 as the state-owned Societate Anonima
Industria Aeronautica Romania to build aircraft and aero
engines. Aircraft built under license included the Potez 25,
Morane-Saulnier 35, Fleet
37, 38, 39
10-G, PZL11 c and XXIV. Indigenous
designs included the IAR.15 single-seat fighter monoplane.
Renamed Regia Autonoma Industria Aeronautica
Romana (q.v.) in 1940, but still using IAR for types. Came
under joint Soviet/Romanian control as Sovromtractor (q.v.)
from 1946, with Brasov works known as URMV-3 (q.v.)
during 1950s. Renamed ICA Brasov (q.v.) 1968 and
changed again to IAR-SA Brasov (q.v.) in 1991.
