Societe Industrielle d'Aviation Latécoère were formed in 1917, initially building other manufacturers aircraft under license, such as the Nieuport 27. Following a couple of unsuccessful designs, Latécoère developed the Laté 3 to provide an aircraft for use on the manufacturers own airline, Lignes Aeriennes Latécoère. The sole example first flew in 1919, and was used on mail services between France, Spain and Morocco.
