In June 1996 Fairchild Aerospace of U.S.A. bought 80% of the German manufacturer Dornier Luftfahrt from Daimler-Benz Aerospace, resulting in creation of Fairchiid Dornier Germany Dornier Luftfahrt GmbH. Current product range comprises Fairchiid Dornier 228 twin-turboprop 19-passenger commuter transport (first flown March 1981) plus special missions variant for many roles including border patrol, maritime patrol, pollution surveillance, antiship warfare, long-range observation, etc.; Dornier 328 twin-turboprop 30-39 passenger regional transport (first flown December 1991); 328JET twin-turbofan development of 328 (first flown January 1998; 40-passenger version launched as 428JET, and low-wing developments are 55-passenger 528JET, 70-passenger 728JET and 90-passenger 928JET).
