Took over hangars at Kanpur (Indian Air Force Station) when a decision was taken to build the Hawker Siddeley 748 as a Dakota replacement. First set of jigs set up at Depot by mid-1960, and first Indian-built 748 (delivered unassembled from England) flew November 1,1961. Production of type continued, in addition to other work, including sailplanes. In June 1964 the Depot was incorporated in Aeronautics (India) Ltd. and later became Kanpur Division of Hindustan Aeronautics Ltd. (q.v.).
