JAG 255 at Heli Expo in 2002

Jag Helicopter Group is promoter of the world's first turbine-powered, multi-bladed kit helicopter. Company manufacturing plant at Roseville covers 5,110m2 and employed 32 people in September 2002. The company has also announced that it intends to develop a four-seat version under the designation JAG 455 (four seats, five main rotor blades, five tail rotor blades) as well as a UAV version.

TYPE: Two-seat helicopter kitbuilt.

PROGRAMME: Mockup exhibited at Sun ‘n’ Fun, April 2001 and EAA AirVenture, Oshkosh, July 2001. Prototype (unflown, but later registered N255JH) shown at Heli Expo, February 2002. Not believed to have flown by end of 2003.

CURRENT VERSIONS:

  • JAG 235: Baseline version; two seats, three main rotor blades and three tail rotor blades.
  • JAG 255: Two seats, five main blades and five tail rotor blades. Otherwise generally as for JAG 235.
  • JAG 285: Two seats, eight main and five tail rotor blades. Otherwise generally as for JAG 235.

CUSTOMERS: Total 30 sold by July 2001.

COSTS: US$162,000 per kit for first 100 JAG 235s; approximately US$175,000 thereafter. JAG 255 US$184,000; JAG 285 US$223,000 (2003).

DESIGN FEATURES: Multiblade helicopter with shrouded, otherwise conventional, tail rotor. Three, four or five blades standard; six, seven or eight blade versions available to special order. Streamlined design wirh frock main landing gear mounted on large sponsons.

FLYING CONTROLS: Conventional and manual.

STRUCTURE: Composites.

LANDING GEAR: Wheeled tricycle type; fixed.

POWER PLANT: One 236kW derated Rolls-Royce 250-C18 turboshaft. Fuel capacity 265 litres.

ACCOMODATION: Two persons, side by side. Cockpit open at each side.
