The notar was a waste of time,The engineers I talked to wanted an elipitical cross section on the tail ,It has a yaw instability that flickers the tail in forward flight,The added drag slows the top speed and proformance at altitude is less then a standard 500, and the mechanics are more critical lots more parts,In some cases the tails just fail in flight.(Fall off)Not a good idea......

Long shot, does anyone know where I can obtain a DVD of a 1980s doco called "The Chopper"? I have no idea who produced it, exact year, or who the English-sounding narrator is. It includes interviews with Hanna Reitsch and Bart Kelley (coworker of Arthur Young at Bell), and other techs and pilots, as well as footage of the prototype NOTAR, Apache, Sikorsky ABC and the XV-15.

This notar helicopter is impressive and good but actually a VTOL with no propeller and no tail rotar will be a milestone in aviation.
Iam not talking about jet powerd harrier jump jet or F35.
I m doing a reaserch in an antigravity aircrafts that can hover in mid air without any propulsion. If anybody intrested in helping me or sharing my research plz contact me my email or my phone number +919741373279

i love this plane but would like toknow what makes it so quiet as compared tp "normal" helicopters

I have a lot ove time with choppers .

As a former Narional Guard maintenance supervisor in helicopters for 34 years. My version of Notar is to put jets on the tips of the main rotor so that the main rotor turns freely onthe shaft without creating torque thus elinminating a need for a tail rotor or any other anti-torque device such as a Notar. Please contact me regarding this concept.

I think i have a system that is much simpler.Please call 502 24 8381

Es un gran avance y una idea muy visionaria; aparte de segura. Lástima que haya tanta ignorancia (en el pueblo llano) al respecto y que se haya tardado tanto en dar a conocer.

@ Farah

The NOTAR config works on a certain fluid dynamics phenomenon called Coanda effect which simply means that a fluid (in this case air) when it flows over a body tends to stick to the body if it is curved. What they do with such choppers is create a duct and a fan inside to direct the air blown from the main rotor fans on the side of the tail shaft. The location of the duct is such that the air flowing around it opposes the torque of the main rotor. Controlling how much air the duct allows to pass through you can control the direction of the helicopter.

The ducted air for the anti-torque (yaw) is engine exhaust.

i am a student in helicopter maintenance... i just wanna asked you, how's the NOTAR system works??

Mr. MOHAMMED MUZAKKIR SHARIEFF, could you tell me if your concept are flying today? I like to know more about your concept see also my website: /helicopter

This helicopter design has a good concept of eliminating the anti torque device like tail rotor blade which is very dangerous during combat but i have Helicopter design which will eliminate any kind of anti torque device but with only single main rotor, surpriced it's a reality, contact me if you want to know the details +91-9980419072

Do you have any comments ?
