I was the flight test engineer on the N79P flight testing.
We did receive the FAA certification for the aircraft.
Seven of these were built under contract for the Army and delivered to Edwards Air Force Base. Had over 700 flight hours in the Helicpoter.

I have a question about the 269B. its about the spacer at the engine end of the main drive shaft (rubber bumper). If it is missing will the main drive shaft disengage from the main drive spline?

Flew all the types of 269s-The early A,s had a high speed tail rotor the size of post cards. sounded like a buzz saw,and didn't like any thing but a head wind,All the rest were a good solid helicopter to fly and an express elevator to auto in,look between your toes and go!

When Howard Hughes still had a hand in Hughes Tool operations back in 1962, I worked in Flight Test and had N8706F assigned to me. Would do all kinds of configurations to make ship more marketable. Installed flotation kit that sank in a test pool, ag spray kit,stretcher kit with me as the wounded dummy, engine mods for easier blade engagement that accidentally ripped blades off, and many others. Had a great time operating a whirl stand which is a wonder we didn't kill ourselves so close next to it. Then spent 200 hrs ground flying a Model 369 which became the OH-6 for military. Flew with many fine pilots and did all kinds of ilegal maneuvers. Loved the business then.

i have had the experience of flying this heptr(model 300C) at banglore as a trainee pilot. best for abinitio trg. at first look i could not believe that it could fly,but when i started flying it was amazing...looks more like a mosquito...but thats apart but my initial experience is on this only.i learned hover,taxi,take off and other mvres on this only.

I flew the 269A many hours in support of road building, logging and various back country missions. I still am amazed at the versitility of this light weight bird. I took it places most would not. Now at 82 I am still in love with the 269 and it's capability with the right Pilot at the controls!
