Just a comment on Cloudshooter22's post, by "buss boom", I assume he meant the WWII German V1 (buzz bomb). In fact, this would be incorrect. The buzz bomb used a pulse jet engine, whereas Hiller's rotor tip jets were ramjets, not pulse jets.

I was a training aviation mechanic in 1957 at Ft. Rucker Alabama when I saw my first Hornet. I think the reason you have not seen the use of the ram jet engines on the rotor tips was because they are very loud. Remember this was the "Buss Boom" engine in World War II used by the German Military to boom England.
