Hi Jim Ive just seen your 2010 comment about the Brooklands Mosquito Gyroplane I have been makinging a documentary about "the gyroplane and how it works" (in my retirement) I have just started researching the Brooklands machines Would you be interested in a chat about them and Ernie ?

I was interested to read these comments....I was the first airport fireman on scene when Ernie was killed on the 9th of March 1969. Freddy Fusedale was the Chief Engineer at the airport, I dont remember him flying a gyrocopter. Ernie is the only person to die in an aircraft accident in the history of Teesside Airport (now Durham-Tees Valley)

I was a schoolboy at the time a story of the indestructible gyroplane called Brookland Mosquito appeared in Malaysian newspapers around 1962. Sadly not long after that Erland Brooks was killed flying the machine that he had built. I felt extremely sad because I had at that time become really crazy about gyroplanes. At 64 I still am.

It was designed by Ernie Brooks who at the time owned a garage in Spennymoor, Co. Durham. The Mosquito was built in a prefab behind his house, I had the honour of being his first apprentice and together with an Austrian friend we built these incredible machines. Sadly Ernie died after an accident in his machine during a demo at Teeside airport.
