HAPPY BIRTHDAY

Kenneth L Michael, e-mail, 19.03.2015 07:16

Hello all and greetings from AZ.
I worked with and was friend of Ken Bunyard when he and I worked at Eastern Airlines in Miami FL as engineers during the 1970's. I was a young buck engineer and he was older and wiser, I listened when he spoke. He was fascinating and challenging to discuss any type of technical issue with. Not disclosed herein is the fact that he invented the T tail aileron design.
He also would never pass up a chance to get on the piano in any gathering and play for hours. Never needed nor was able to use sheet music. Did it self taught and all by ear.
Today, I still own the 30-06 Remington 700 that he sold me after the untimely death of his son. That was in approximately early 1970's.
Knowing Ken in his latter years was an immeasurable highlight of my life and probably contributed immensely to my own success.
Sincerely, Ken Michael Payson AZ 928-970-1562

Not a lot of info out there (only one picture). This is all I could find:

In 1931 Ken. Bunyard designed and built a small biplane flying-boat, following this with a design for an unusual amphibian which failed to materialize in prototype form. At the end of the Second World War he began production of a three-seat lightweight amphibian flying-boat know as the Bunyard BAX-3 Sportsman. A four-seat version was designated BAX-4.

BAX-3 Sportsman 1946 = 3pChwMAm; 130hp Franklin 6AC pusher; span: 34'4" length: 23'0" v: x/105/45. Ken Bunyard. All-wood construction; cantilever wing. Prototype of BAX-4.
BAX-4 Sportsman 1948 = 4pChwMAm; 190hp Lycoming O-435 pusher; span: 34'4" length: 24'0" load: 755# v: 133/118/64 range: 680. $6,000.

Hello Fred, So nice to see my dad's aircraft and know he would be so happy and proud to have you comment on good times in Flushing with Ken and Jim. I hope you and yours are well and would love to chat. Nancy

As a child, I was a friend of the Bunyard family. I spent many hours playing around or cleaning this aircraft. Is the woman you spoke of named Nancy Bunyard)maiden name? Her dad was Ken Bunyard senior and my close friends were her brothers Ken Jr. and Jim Bunyard.

I personally know a woman in NY, who claims her father created the Bunyard Sportsman. Feel free to contact me at the above e-mail address.onlyme5172@yahoo.com
