I flew the 228 at the original Midway Airlines and it was a safe, gentle, stable aircraft. It was pretty to the pilots.

Flew the Do-228 for a few years in Africa. Having time in the DHC-6 Twin Otter, I compared the STOL characteristics and enjoyed having at least 75% STOL capability (of the Twin Otter) but enjoying a higher cruise speed from the Dornier. I really prefer the PT6 prop-jet engine over the Garrett TPE 331-5 engine. The Garrett needs more fine tuning it seems. But, the Do-228 did a good job in Africa bush conditions.

I have over 5000 hours in the -228 and I absolutely loved the plane. I consider myself very fortunate to have had been able to fly it. I still have my manuals and personal notes and they bring back many fond memories. The engines were a bit troublesome. The airframe was great!!!

Good and sleak aircraft with less maintenance

Hi just a little comment about the specifications the cruise speed at 10000ft is close to 205 kts/365km/h true airspeed @65% of max continuous power

There is a very good Revell kit of the Do-228 to a scale of 1/72. I have made the scale model myself in German Navy camouflage and markings. I can supply picture of my model if asked.
