| Johan Runfeldt, e-mail, 22.07.2011 18:35 Mike, the only Swedish fighter so far that has fired its guns in anger is the J29 Flying Barrel. They were part of the UN mission to Congo in the early 1960s. Scan the net for more info. reply | Mike Cole, e-mail, 05.04.2011 17:50 How is it that a small Nation such as Sweden can continuously produce world class military aircraft whilst the UK has to combine with other nations to produce the Euro fighter. Maybe we should team up with Sweden. PS Has any Swedish fighter experienced actual combat and fired it's weapons in anger? reply | Leo Rudnicki, e-mail, 09.11.2009 01:13 Had the F-20 been in service today, there would be a planned up-grade to F-414G which is designed to replace F-412 and F-404 without significant changes to the airframe. The planform origin is Viggen. The similarity is Typhoon. The fixed hinged foreplane and leading edge cutaway of Viggen are gone on Gripen. reply | Martin, 08.11.2009 15:42 Leo, I do hope you realize the wing planforms origins from the Viggen, and not the Eurofighter. The Gripen is planned to be upgraded with a new engine (F414G). reply | leo rudnicki, e-mail, 14.04.2009 19:04 oops! They took out the 30mm Oerlikon und schlipped in the Mauser. reply | leo rudnicki, e-mail, 14.04.2009 04:30 With a powerplant arrangement from the Northrop F-20 and wing planform of Eurofighter, and the gun from the JA-37, and no more software problems, it just looks right. even if it isn't American, or maybe because it isn't. reply | Jonny, 31.01.2009 20:44 You mean 4th or even 4.5th generation. 3rd generation jetfighters are aircraft like the MiG-21, F-4 or Mirage III reply | Zigzaw, e-mail, 03.03.2008 00:52 Gripen was the first so called 3rd generation jetfighter operating and deployed in the world. reply |
