ASJA Jaktfalk II

When, on 1 January 1933, the newly-established aviation department of the Linkoping-based railway wagon and carriage manufacturer, the AB Svenska Jarnvagsverkstaderna (ASJA) acquired the assets of Svenska Aero AB of Lidingo, it took over the continued development of the latter company's S.A. 14 Jaktfalk (Gerfalcon) single-seat fighter. An improved version of the J 6A was evolved by ASJA as the J 6B Jaktfalk II, this being offered with Armstrong Siddeley Jaguar or Panther engines, or the Bristol Jupiter. The Jaktfalk II retained the revised wing structure and lengthened fuselage of the J 6A, to which were added redesigned horizontal tail surfaces from which the bracing struts were eliminated. Seven were ordered by Flygvapnet with the supercharged nine-cylinder Bristol Jupiter VIIF radial rated at 520hp at 3050m, armament comprising the standard paired 8mm synchronised machine guns. The contract was placed with ASJA on 1 May 1933, and the seven aircraft were delivered during the following October-November, serving, like the Svenska Aero-built J 6s and J 6As, with Flygflottiljl at Vasteras. Two of the J 6B Jaktfalkar (together with a single Svenska Aero-built J6A) were donated to Finland in December 1939, subsequently serving in the fighter training role.
