Prototype flown under OKB designation Tu-88 27 April 1952 was overweight; Andrei Tupolev delayed production until second prototype flew in 1953 with uprated AM-3A turbojets and 5,500kg weight reduction; maximum speed increased to 992km/h at cost of maximum IAS of only 700km/h at low altitude instead of originally required M0.9; deliveries began 1954; nine Tu-16 took part in May Day 1954 flypast over Moscow, 54 in Aviation Day flypast 1955; approximately 2,000 produced in many versions; manufacture ended late 1950s.

Classic Soviet bomber

In the mid's 1960, this aircraft preparing to shank Nedherland
carriers Karell Dorman In Trikora Operation at west papua.
This aircraft was armed with KS 1 surface misil. We have 12 KS
1 and carrying with 6 TU 16. Now 2 aircraft been monumen. One
