Based on the earlier M.26, the M.41 was designed by Castoldi to fulfill a Regia Marina request for a M.7 ter replacement. Only one of the M.41 was produced, the production model being the M.41 bis which differed in having a vertical radiator and some 41 were procured and were in service until 1938.
