This was an extremely successful advanced trainer with over 11,500 produced. The Ar 96B model was armed, with a single fuselage mounted 7.92mm MG17 machine gun. Production was initialy transfered to Ago Flugzeugwerke and then in mid 1941 to Avia which was subsequently supported by another Czech company, Letov. In fact Avia continued production until 1948 supplying the nascent Czech airforce with the then designated Avia C.2B.

I believe this was the plane that Ritter von Greim and Hanna Reitsch flew out of berlin just before the fall of the city.

BULLSHIT, IT WAS ONLY USED FOR TRAINER ONLY. MY GRANDFATHER WAS TRAINED IN ONE OF THESE AR-96 AND ASKED THE COMMANDER IF IT WAS POSSIBLE TO CONVERT ONE TO A FIGTHER. THE COMMANDER SAID IT WOULD NOT BE POSSIBLE. BECAUSE IT WAS A LIGHT TRAINER AND IF IT TOOK ANY G-FORCES, THE WINGS WOULD GET RIPPED OFF CLEAN. THIS HAPPENED TO A FRIEND OF HIS AND NEVER GOT OUT OF THE COCKPIT AND CRASHED. NEVER FOUND AGAIN.
