The Fairey Battle was chosen to replace the R-31 /32. Sometimes, the bear gets you.

Constructed by modifying the R-31 observation aircraft, a parasol, with an enclosed canopy, it was still unstable with the Gnome /Rhone, refitted with a Hispano-Suiza and crashed. All R-31's were also destroyed, during the invasion. The Fairey Battle was chosen to replace the R-31 /32. Sometimes, the bear gets you.
