Founded 1991 to bring together several organizations undertaking aviation related work and intending to move into civil aircraft development and production, including Moscow Dementyev Aviation Production Association, Gromov Flight Research Institute, and Moscow Aviation Institute. In 1993 received Russian State Certificate as Russia's first commercially operated aircraft manufacturing company. In 1997 Aviatika withdrew from the program, after which the manufacturer of Aviatika lightplanes became known as KB MAI.
