No doubt a more efficient modern engine could significantly increase range, which was already quite good. I would look at off the shelf ommercial APUs as Powerplant, look at the FARs to see if could be certified today.

The vertical fin is only for manoevering. The dutch KOLIBRI helicopter with ramjets on the rotortips works in the same way
