We have a 5,000 acre, placer gold ore site, located south of Lima, Peru, in an area that's 14 miles, to the nearest town and no roads to the property. Need to move at least 100 tons per day and will initially hire the current owners to begin hauling for us, with the understanding, that we will end up purchasing the helicopters, from them. (Mi-26 only) Please contact me, if you own Mi-26 helicopters or can prove that you have legal and specific access to one or more.

I worked at Moro Airfield 1989-1990 I worked under the MIL26 building heavy earth moving equipment such as CAT D10L with impact ripper, 2 off CAT 245ME excavators and several other items of equipment. We also loaded the CAT 300DB articulated trucks into the MIL26 for transport to Moro. I enjoyed my time working with the Russian crew on the project.

lukas, e-mail, 12.04.2011 19:50

I enjoyed every little bit part of it and I will be waiting for the new updates. I am very much pleased with the contents you have mentioned.

Robin Colbourne, e-mail, 07.01.2011 15:04

Hi, The paragraph below the picture of a mobile crane being loaded into the Mi-26 is actually about the Mi-12 and not the Mi-26. As a result this can easily confuse the reader. Can I suggest you delete the paragraph?

to me the "Hook" and the "Halo", are the biggest, useful and nicest, when we talk about sized, not firepower. That we have to leave to the Hokum and the havok

I am in the Ground Support business and was curious as to what kind, including Power rating, of Ground Power Unit (GPU)is required to support the Mi-26 and the Mi-8 helicoptors when in the hangar for maintenance?

Phil Latz, e-mail, 23.09.2008 04:10

As the Chief Pilot for Hevilift PNG at the time, I was responsible for introducing the Mil to Chevron ops (re Will Billon comment above) and the Russians flying the initial loads into Chevron's site which became Moro airstrip. To obtain a copy of the Mil 26's Limitations `translated' into a Western format and English, please visit my website,
My book, also on the website, details events surrounding the introduction of the Mil and Kamov Ka 32's to Chevron Plus `interesting' comments about getting the Russian crews to work to and in Western ways. Five crew in a Kamov were simply not on!

Dmitry, e-mail, 27.08.2008 13:30

I was flying on it during army service. More than 150 passengers was besides me< with their military equipment. The flights was not extra comfortable but tasks was done in time.

This helicoper is desingd to carry water, and to releasd it in one go.
Why is it that there is not a helicopter build whith water cannon guns, like on fire engins to combat fires in forrest.

yarik, 25.04.2008 06:07

power plant consists of Progres D-136 but not D-126)))

gurpreet tung, e-mail, 24.04.2008 18:46

i thing so big and great great succesful aviation

Will Billon, e-mail, 20.08.2007 05:51

I was in charge of all aircraft for Chevron Overseas developing an oilfield in the mountains of New Guinea from 1989 to 1996. We had three Boeing Vertols, an occaisonal Chinook and two Russian Kamovs along with one Mil 26. Counting all the Hughes 500s and Bells, we had about 27 helicopters operating at one time. We used the large helicopters to move the three drilling rigs throughout the rainforest. The Mil 26 is a great machine and we used it primarily to haul bulldozers and other heavy wheeled trucks to a site to build a runway for three Hercs ( Southern Air Transport) that hauled all of our infrastructure for the project from Lae, on the coast. The three hercs flew 15 flights a day for Two years. I flew in the copilot's seat of the Mil using the cyclic (heaven forbid not touching the collective!!) and it was very quiet and the cockpit reminded me of the Herc in size. We had a tail rotor strike on it when offloading some heavy material out the back and the nose lifted causing the huge tail rotor to hit the limestone runway and disentergrate. It was pilot error since he was supposed to transfer fuel forward to compensate. No one was hurt but we had to get another transmission (as big as a Volkswagen) , tail rotor gearbox and drive shaft from Russia which took several months. This was more precautionary since the whole system was stressed to some degree. This was a great machine!!!!!!!

paaksimaa, e-mail, 24.06.2007 16:43

I think it is symbol of the russian successful aviation technique.
I really love it and all other Aircrafts made in Russia !!!

Admin, 28.04.2007 17:53

Hehe :)
Just compare it to the Chinook. Mi-26 is three times bigger.

Mi-26 vs Chinook

Vihan Talur, e-mail, 28.04.2007 13:04

I first saw this marvel machine yesterday[27 .04 .2007]on the discovery channel in its programme'greatest ever'.It was rated no.4 of all choppers but I think its really the king of all choppers. Its qwite odd looking to be frank and I think the chinook looks bigger if both are seen in photographs of the same size, kind of,but whatever it is ,it is fantastic!
