LIPNUR was predecessor to IPTN (Industri Pesawat Terbang Nurtanio) 1965 which became Industri Pesawat Terbang Nusantara (IPTN) which in 1985 became PT Dirgantara Indonesia (PTDI) in 2000, and PTDI marketed itself in English as PT (State Owned Industry) Indonesian Aerospace shortly thereafter as PT IAe or IAe. Si Kumbang was a COIN prototype made by father of Indonesian aviation Nurtanio Pringgoadisuryo less than 10 years after Independence. At the time, the Americans were engaged in Operation Haik where Allen Pope was shot down and court-martialled for killing 16 Indonesian soldiers. Specifications were always in Metric- Indonesia never used Fred Flinstone units. SiKumbang First flight 1 August 1954. Length 8.16 m. Wingspan: 10.61 m (34 ft 10 in), Height: 3.35 m, Wing area: 16.9 m quadrat, aspect ratio: 6.6:1, airfoil: NACA 23015 at root, NACA 23009 at tip. Mass empty: 795 kg, mass gross: 1,090 kg. Fuel 205 litre. Powerplant inverted de Havilland Gipsy Six air-cooled six-cyliner inline engine, 150 kW driving 2-bladed fixed pitch prop. Max velocity 256 km/h. Cruise: 224 km/h. Range 960 km. Ceiling: 5,030 m. Rate of climb: 5.1 m/s. Si Kumbang-02 used a Continental O-470-A 167kW 225 flown on 25 September 1957. Following designs were LIPNUR Kunang Nu25/35(1957), LIPNUR Belalang (1958).

It's name Si Kumbang, meaning (intimate definitive article) BumbleBee. Si= definite article used before a noun referring to a particular person in a category esp in Javanese language of Indonesia. Kumbang can also mean black and or beetle. Pls excuse the silly kids posting in Indonesian here- anak2 kurang ajar (crude unruly kids).

PT DI sekarang tahun 2010 sedang membuat beberapa pesawat komersial pesanan vietnam. Tahun ini TNI akan pesan 2 Kapal Selam Kelas Kilo dari Rusia, kedatangan tambahan 3 Sukhoi ( jadi 10 Sukhoi) pesan lagi 6 Sukhoi, kedatangan 16 Super Tucano dari Brazil, pesan 22 F16 CD dari Amrik, pesan 100 Kapal Cepat Rudal ke PAL, pesan 8 Korvet Perusak Kawal Rudal ke PAL, menambah 10 Batalyon di Kalimantan, bentuk Kodam di Kalimantan, pembuatan rudal Lapan jarak 300 km, penambahan radar di Indonesia Timur, penambahan pasukan marinir sampai 60ribu pasukan, kedatangan tank amphibi BMP-3F dari Rusia (17 unit), penambahan kekuatan sampai 3 divisi Kostrad, pembelian rudal yakhont dari Rusia dan C802 dari China. dan yang paling saya tunggu2, Indonesia akan bekerja sama dgn korea dalam proyek KF-X, walaupun indonesia ngeluarin biaya juga, tapi indonesia bakal dapet juga beberapa unit KF-X.! kan indonesia belom punya pesawat generasi 5 dgn fasilitas STEALTH.. brarti gurih dong... Seharusnya masih ada dua pesawat buatan Indonesia masuk ke dalam daftar, yaitu N-250 dan N-2130. Tetapi kenapa proyek pembuatan pesawat tersebut terseok-seok ? Saya yakin para pakar2 aeronautic engineer Indonesia mampu....... Apakah karena suatu alasan politis sehingga proyek tersebut ditinggalkan ? Adakah kepedulian pemerintah untuk melanjutkan proyek tersebut, dengan berbagai cara melobi pihak2 authority internasional sehingga ijin or sertifikasi thd pesawat tersebut dapat terrealisasi ? Ironis sekali, padahal orang2 pintar indonesia katanya banyak tersebar di manca negara mendapat pengakuan Internasional, tetapi untuk negara sendiri tidak peduli........oh malangnya nasib Indonesia. Ayo bung !! Bangunlah negara sendiri dulu baru berbicara di dunia internasional......Okay..

I worked at IPTN in Bandung in 1993-94 as a powerplant engineer on the N250. The original NU-200 aircraft is at the entrance to IPTN and looks exactly like the above photo. I took two photos of the aircraft at that time.

I have visited IPTN / PTDI in Bandung @ 2003, I am so impressed to see the capabilities and advanced technology used to design and manufacture CN235 and other aircrafts, Pak Nurtiano has leave a legacy to the whole Malay archipelago. We must now work together to build reliable aircraft for ASEAN countries...as what Europe has come up with Airbus.
