In October 1969 as a major I had the great privilege of flying the Breguet 941S with the French AF at Mont-de-Marsan Air Base. I represented the USAF Tactical Airlift Center, Pope AFB, NC. My pilot companion, Major Weldon Burden represented the USAF Flight Test Center, Edwards AFB, CA., accompanied by an Aeronautical Test Engineer, Larry Colburn, GS-13. Our host was Squadron Commander Captain Piercy, FAF. We were well received and our evaluation was assisted in every way. The outcome concluded that the 941S was too small for the 463L cargo and air delivery system standard across the US military services. Otherwise, we learned great respect for the 941S flying performance and advanced Short Takeoff & Landing design. I consider my brief partnership with the French Air Force a highlight of my 34 US Air Force career.
