| The Seversky Sev-S2, a powerful, low-wing racing monoplane, was virtually identical to the Seversky P-35, which was undergoing trials in 1937. It dominated the last three Bendix Trophy air races, beginning in 1937 when Frank Fuller won at an average speed of 415.51km/h, having flown for 7 hrs 54 min 26 sec. On 3 September the following year, the famous aviatrix
Jacqueline Cochran won the race at an average speed of 401.83km/h. The Sev-S2 was an important aircraft, the forerunner of a line that led directly to the Republic P-47 Thunderbolt.

| Klaatu, e-mail, 26.06.2011 16:37 The 1938 MGM movie "Test Pilot" featured one of these airplanes, supposedly being flown by Clark Gable. I believe the one the studio used was Frank Fuller's. reply |
