The Makhonine MAK 10 was a research aircraft which was built to investigate the possibility of reducing the surface area of a wing in flight and thereby considerably increase the aircraft's maximum flying speed.Monsieur Jean Makhonine achieved this in 1931 with his 'telescopic'wing.
The maximum wingspan was 69 feet and the minimum span was 43 feet when the outer wing sections were telescoped. The wing area on Makhonine's prototype could be reduced from 355 square feet to 204 square feet.
