Dassault Super Etendard

The Super Etendard transonic shipboard strike fighter was a progressive development of the Etendard IVM and was, in fact, 90%, having a more powerful turbojet, enhanced-capability equipment, improved aerodynamic features and revised structure. The first of three development aircraft (converted from Etendard IVM airframes) flew on 28 October 1974, and the first series Super Etendard for the Aeronavale flew on 24 November 1977, deliveries commencing on 28 June 1978. Powered by an 5000kg SNECMA Atar 8K-50 turbojet, the Super Etendard had a built-in armament of two 30mm cannon and various external ordnance loads on five stores stations, such as four 250kg or 400kg bombs and two Matra Magic AAMs, or four pods of 18 68mm rockets, or two AM 39 Exocet anti-shipping missiles. Fourteen were ordered by Argentina and the Super Etendard was employed operationally from shore bases in May 1982 during the Falklands conflict. Seventy-one Super Etendards were supplied to the Aeronavale, production terminating in 1983. The prototype of an upgraded version of the Super Etendard was flown on 5 October 1990, when it was proposed that a further 54 would be upgraded to similar standards (two by Dassault and 52 by Aeronavale's Cuers workshops) at a rate of 15 annually from 1992, to extend the service life of the Super Etendard to the year 2008. The upgrade programme included both airframe modifications and avionics updating.

Wow! Did I open a can of worms? Point of order, though, the Falkland Islands became a British Colony in 1833 twenty years before the Argentine Constitution in 1853.

Typical Britt...Argentina became independent in 1810 after finishing colonialist British forces twice in the battles of San Lorenzo and Retiro. Both attempts to make Argentina a colony for the Empire..?? Out of spite and according to the Pirates tradition then stole the Malvinas Islands in 1833..way after Argentine Independence.
Calling Argentine government facist from British point of view is...well funny since Britain is the worse Pirate and Facist country tradition in the world,,,, besides a bully and cruel colonialist...we the Americans still remember you colonianism and dont forget your hero Churchill let 1200 americans died to get USA in the war and save your sorry asses or should I say arses..??
Please get up to the 21st Century and joint the democratic countries of the world and stop your bullying and taken advantage of the Americans good heart
You can puy the Typhoons there and anything you want and still just a country of Pirates and Thieves.
An American that knows more about History that a rude Britt.

Why didn't the Argentinians go after softer yet as crucial targets as the carriers, the transports, in the first place ? The Canberra out, the war was won.
AND why on earth not having waited for the Invincible to be under Australian flag ?!!!

anyway, the shefild are Undies, hence the attack, the aircraft and the missile were effective.
certainly our government at the time was wrong (I'm Argentinian), and when British pirate you stole from us the Malvinas (Falklands will say you) Our government was very poor and does not move, but territorially belonged to us, the Ered the Viceroyalty of the River silver, the imperialist desires of the British government in that time does not entitle them to take land just because they can, ask yourself who are the bullies?
finally, as I have read write Malvinas (Falklands) in respect to my country and Falklands (Malvinas) out of respect for the British, who wrote the article after you write plea Falklands Malvinas put in parentheses.
From already thank you very much.

Fernando you have to realise you lost. The Exocet was not such a great missile the one that hit HMS Sheffield actually failed to explode. Your leaders were typical facist bullies without any idea how to run a campaign. The Falkland Islands were a British Colony before the state of Argentina was ever founded and long may it remain so. I somehow do not think that you country will spoil for a fight now that Typhoons are based there.

Fernando, don't get bitter, perhaps next time fight harder. Next time!!!
This aircraft with the exocet missile was very effective during the Falkalnds War. Indeed, the Argentine air attacks on shipping were a good kick up the backside to our Naval planners & has instigated a significant policy change on CIWS in the Navy. It also showed what an air-air demon the Sea Harrier was.
