Miles M.71 Merchantman

In August 1947 Miles flew the M.71 Merchantman with four 186kW de Havilland Gipsy Queen 30 engines and a modified Marathon wing. Configuration was otherwise similar to that of the Aerovan, but the aircraft was of metal construction. The Merchantman was the ultimate development of the Aerovan design philosophy, and could carry 2268kg of freight or 20 passengers over 1367km.

Unfortunately this promising design was unable to proceed because of the firm's collapse.
