English Electric Wren

English Electric built two Wren ultra-light aircraft powered by 398cc ABC motorcycle engines for the Daily Mail Light Aeroplane Competition at Lympne in October 1923. One shared prizes with an ANEC monoplane, achieving fuel consumption of 87.5 miles/gallon.

The answer to Solomen is they are prety much the same! Iv seen it fly at Shuttleworth it is these days a marginal flyer but not to be missed great fun

I noticed that the engine of the Wren at Old Warden had two small pipes apparently feeding exhaust gas back into the air inlets. Does anyone know what the purpose of this was?
